Chief Executive and Chairman of the Board Of Trustees

Andrew has over 40 years experience in building businesses as Founder and Director of International design, publishing and conference companies, including; Freeway City & Law, New Ag International, Global Grain and Global Commodities Group.

He founded Surplus to Supper in 2017, initially as a fundraising operation for local charities, after volunteering at the Community Foodbank.

A keen sportsman and now an enthusiastic supporter of local Sports Clubs and Youth initiatives.

Andrew was also Chairman of Sunbury Neighbours, which provides vital medical and social transport links for the elderly and those in need locally.

Markku has over 35 years of business experience as a senior operational leader in global technology and services businesses including Auto Trader, Nokia Siemens Networks, Accenture, EDS, ThoughtWorks and dunnhumby.

After retiring from Auto Trader in 2017, Markku keeps himself busy as an Angel Investor for exciting startup companies and now as a trustee and a volunteer van driver/food carrier for Surplus to Supper.

Markku, like most other Finns, is an avid sports fan who keenly follows almost any sport but most often can be found at Stamford Bridge supporting his beloved Chelsea.

Chief Financial Officer

Chris has over 42 years business experience as Finance Officer for a trade exhibition company and a charity.

Since retiring, he has worked as a part time treasurer for a number of charities and a volunteer tax advisor for businesses and individuals.

Chris's role at Surplus to Supper is to support Andrew and the Executive Board with financial reporting, grant applications and advice where needed.

Chris is a keen walker, cyclist and badminton player.

Monica has worked in the media sector for 35 years, initially in global TV roles at Discovery Channel and Zone Media, then launching her own community publishing company, Village Matters Ltd.

Village Matters Ltd was founded in 2010 and produces high quality local magazines which are hand delivered to homes across Lower Sunbury, Shepperton and Laleham. The magazines give a platform to share useful local information and tips within the community, and have been key in spreading the word about the work of Surplus to Supper.

Monica moved to Shepperton recently having lived 12 years in Sunbury.
In her spare time she loves dog walking, canoeing and has recently taken up skiffing in old wooden boats on the Thames.

Simon is CEO of Prosell Learning Ltd which delivers sales, service and leadership training around the world.
Since 1985 this business has been about helping people reach their potential by delivering training which impacts results.

Prior to that he started his career selling door to door carpet cleaning which shows his age!
His aim is bring some of this expertise, colleagues and contacts to help the Surplus to Supper team and the great work they do.

Outside work, Simon’s many passions means that he spends far too much time watching rugby, football, cricket , boxsets, plays, films and reading.

Jonathan Dunn

Volunteer – Trustee and Managing Director

Jonathan was appointed as a trustee of Surplus to Supper in 2020. Since March 2024 he has also acted as the Managing Director of the Sunbury Hub on a voluntary basis. Outside of Surplus, Jonathan is the Managing Director of J P Dunn Construction Ltd. The company was established in 1999 and currently has a turnover approaching £40m a year. The company has a strong reputation for training apprentices and providing work for ex-offenders. Jonathan has a passion for bringing people through his business irrespective of their level of entry and helping them to forge a successful career in construction.

Until recently Jonathan was the Chair and chief sponsor of Thamesians RFC where he was one of the driving forces in setting up a successful women’s team. In the last couple of years, he has set up a charity called the Udney Park Playing Fields Foundation with the objective of purchasing 12.5 acres of playing fields for community use and has managed to bring together all national sporting bodies and numerous community clubs in support of this effort

Hopefully, Jonathan’s skills in setting up and running his own business will be of value in advising Surplus to Supper as they continue to develop and grow.

Claire Hopkins

The driving force behind the set up and rapid expansion of Surplus to Supper, Claire co- founded the fundraising initiative in 2017, and has since early 2020 built an amazing operation from sourcing surplus food, to sorting and storage, and delivering to Foodbanks and other charities throughout Surrey and some London boroughs.

As a swimmer and fitness fanatic Claire originally trained as a lifeguard, personal trainer and gym instructor.

Claire then spent 17 years working as a Deputy Superintendent Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in the London Borough of Hounslow and even had the privilege of registering a few celebrities births and marriages over the years.

Making a complete career change, she took over the Foodbank in Sunbury in 2016 and helped to move it into a Community Hub/Community Foodbank.

In her (limited) time off, Claire likes to exercising, all sports and socialising with her friends, when she is not looking after her children and grandchildren. She also likes singing, particularly with a band.

Helen worked in the Social Housing Sector as an Income Recovery Officer for 25 years until being made redundant in 2021. She has been a volunteer at Surplus to Supper for 3 years and works for her husband’s business as a Payroll Director. Helen is a member of the Surplus to Supper Executive Board and a Weekend Market Supervisor for the charity. She enjoys playing golf, Zumba, Pilates, music concerts and of course, volunteering.

Katy Wong

Katy is a full-time secondary school teacher. She has been volunteering at Surplus to Supper since August 2020 covering a variety of roles on various fronts of the charity. She is also a committee member of her local swimming club where her two children swim. Katy is a member of the executive board and manages the market volunteer rota. Outside of volunteering, Katy enjoys cooking and baking.

Phil Hearn

Phil was a former senior engineering manager with 33 years’ experience in the oil and gas sector with a leading global organisation. He has been a volunteer at Surplus to Supper for 3 years and is also a School Governor. Phil is a member of the Surplus to Supper Executive Board and a Daily Operations Foreman for the charity. Since retiring in 2020 he keeps busy by fitness training, cycling, watching live sport and music and of course, volunteering.

Dave Miller

Dave worked in a variety of senior positions for large corporates and smaller entrepreneurial businesses before becoming a consultant in the latter part of his 40-year career.
He retired in 2020 and has been a volunteer with Surplus to Supper since 2022. As well as being a member of the Surplus to Supper Executive Board he is a regular supporter and daily operations foreman for the charity. Behind the scenes he also helps with IT and general maintenance on site.
Away from volunteering he enjoys the outdoors, sports and generally staying fit and active.

Mario has many years of experience in catering and hospitality having joined Surplus to Supper from another surplus food charity.

He has twin daughters. When he’s not doting on them you can find him listening to music, playing and watching football whist also providing for private catering events.

He has hosted both King Charles and Prince William in kitchens where he has worked.

Suzie is a long-standing volunteer and employee having been with us since 2017. She provides valuable oversight to all matters in the kitchen. Outside of her work she enjoys family time with her husband and five children, particularly camping

Will Wan

Will joined in 2024 having previously been a volunteer.

Day to day he manages and coordinates the movement of food into and out of our Sunbury hub, working with fellow staff and many of our volunteers.

Prior to joining Surplus to Supper, he spent many years in the education sector. His wife and 2 children are all volunteers – a real family affair.

Having previously supported the Events Manager for over 2 years, Kaiya has now joined us as on a permanent basis and is currently undertaking her apprenticeship. Her work in supporting The Surplus Kitchen will be seen at internal and external events as well as the many catering events provided for Sunbury Cricket Club.
