Surplus to Supper is committed to tackling food insecurity in our local community by bridging the gap between food waste and food poverty.

The High Sheriff in his speech said, “I want to thank all the staff and volunteers at Surplus to Supper, for putting up a great event, everything that you have eaten or will take away would have gone into landfill – the food, the drinks and even the flowers. I also wanted to say a huge thank you to the chef, who told me that he has left the Seychelles to move to Sunbury-on-Thames (to become a chef)! The work you do is the reason we are here today, and your impact on the community is profound. Thank you all for being here and for your continued support. Together, we can make a significant difference in our community.”

Claire Hopkins of Surplus to Supper later said “We were very proud to support the High Sheriff event using only food heading to landfill and we feel this really highlights the gap between food waste and food poverty. When the high Sheriff asked us to host his summer Garden Party, we wanted to provide good quality surplus food from right across the food industry. For every plate of food served at the event we also provide free nutritious and culturally relevant surplus meals as part of our ‘Buy One Feed One Free’ initiative, this means every meal enjoyed at the garden party made a difference to someone in need within our community”.
